Alejandro Morse — Liminal
CASSETTE + DIGITAL
Release September 2018
Mexico

Alejandro Morse is the latest ambient/drone project by Edgar Medina. As a founding artist and collaborator at Umor Rex, he released his first full-length albums as Alejandro Morse, "Landscape Memories" (2006) and "Obelisks" (2007), under said label. Medina is also known as Transistor, for his dancefloor-oriented music.

His album "Liminal" was developed over a 2-year process involving recordings from various disparate locations in Mexico, the United States, and Switzerland. Field recordings are meticulously processed to be used as layers, which emotionally and movingly intertwine between arrangements emanated by digital synthesis. He applies intricate sound processing to the intertwined elements, adding complexity to the listener's experience.

Liminal zones and their temporal dimensions are the creative entry for this album, in which each zone is related to sudden events, as death has recently touched Edgar's life. There is an ominous space between moving forward and drowning. In a liminal space, the individual experiences revelations of sacred knowledge, such as childbirth, ecstasy, enlightenment, orgasm, epiphanies, and death. Thus, it is hoped that these works have served as a digital monument and a sonic exegesis for those passing through a liminal zone. May these wandering sounds allow them to move forward into new and more complex dimensions, and meaningful experiences.

Written, produced by Edgar Medina, also known as Alejandro Morse. Art by Daniel Castrejón, photos by Diego Berruecos.
